Ride as a Team – easy logistics – split the miles – share the epic sunrise to sunset challenge!
Team Relay Entry
How does it work?
Split the full distance of the Chase the Sun route between a team of multiple riders, with one or more of you resting and driving a supporting vehicle at any one time.
Inspired by the epic challenge to Chase the Sun? But perhaps the thought of training for, and riding over two hundred miles in one day seems a bit too much time in the saddle – then enter here with teammates to share the mid-summer sunrise challenge…
Riding in pairs or threes on the road, tackle the physical, navigational and motivational challenges together as a successful team to reach sunset.
So grab your teammates and join here to ride together to Chase the Sun!

Why ride a Relay?
Ease of logistics, share the fun (and the miles!), and together take on one epic challenge, yet in bitesize chunks with your teammates.
Ease of logistics & travel plans
While Chase the Sun is a mostly self-supported event, the relay riders will enable a team mate to trace their progress in a support vehicle… a real bonus for those riding on the road, for occasional practical support.
Travel pre- & post- event is easy, taking your own vehicle with you along the route. Also for travel around the start and finish locations, this opens up many more accommodation options if needed.
Your own vehicle will need rack / boot space for 3 or 4 bikes plus riders.
Accessible distance
200+ miles in a day is a long way for one pair of legs! Split the route into 30-60 mile sections, ridden in turns, with time to recover in between, while driving support.
Sociable challenge
Chase the Sun is a big challenge, made fun by sharing the experience with others. Riding in turns of pairs/ threes on the road is great for morale and memories.
We plan – you ride
We plot a flexible ‘Relay Rota’ plan for your team. All change-over locations considered and way-marked. Detailed route maps, timings and guidance will be issued to teams around a month prior to the event, along with split sections GPX and TCX route files.
The Team Relay plan
We plan – you ride!
The concept works on the premise of a ‘relay rota’ of 2 riders together on the road & 1 driver/co-driver – all alternating at designated stops.
Various permeations for riders and distances are permitted but the simplest are illustrated here. Each rider takes on 2 or 3 shorter ride stints across the day, taking their turn to drive the support vehicle in between.
Together – you can all get from sunrise to sunset!

The Route
A double-century feat over an epic 200miles leaving from the beachfront at Whitley Bay at the first ray of ocean sunrise aiming to reach the esplanade at Ayr to witness the (hopefully glorious) sunsetting into the sea beside the Isle of Arran. A route full of stunning vistas, wilderness, heaths, rivers, lochs, castles and beaches, a challenge to inspire you when pedalling the longest day.
