Spring-to-Sunrise : 16-WEEK TRAINING SCHEDULE

19 February 2024

Chase The Sun provides all riders our FREE 2024 Spring-to-Sunrise Training Schedule, you can use this to help guide your weekly training efforts and routines.

We have also partnered with expert cycling coach Toby from Endurance Habit to offer a bespoke interactive Training Peaks Chase the Sun online Training Plan, which is offered at a 30% discount to all CTS riders.

You can also take advantage of Toby’s expertise with a one-to-one coaching programme tailored from today until the mid-summer event day.

How has your Training riding been going so far? Have you been diligently building a base throughout winter… or maybe finding it hard to get going this year?

Regardless of your existing fitness level, early spring is the best time to consider how you might best structure your riding over the next 16 weeks to build towards your longest day adventure. Focusing your riding now till mid-summer by following a structured training routine will maximise your chance of an enjoyable and successful CHASE THE SUN adventure.

There are no shortcuts. However, referring to our FREE TRAINING SCHEDULE will help you create a pattern of regular riding and suggested complimentary activities throughout the week. Building habit and routine is a great start to achieve fitness.

You’ll need to be putting in the miles, riding regularly to first build a base, and then building up your training duration and intensity over the months before mid-summer, steadily increasing the mileage, whilst also working on comfort, pacing, feeding, refining your tech/kit and navigation.

Over longer rides, gauge your progress by comparing Total Distance covered against Total Time Elapsed since departure, rather than by average speed on the road, as discipline with stops and directions is key. Concentrate on developing an even cadence, comfortable heart-rate, and delivering a constant power, using your gears to climb hills steadily and capitalise on descents.

You will typically not need to practice riding a full 200 miles long ride in advance!

Your ‘CTS prepared’ aim should be to complete a ride of approx 120-130miles, at a sustainable pace, with planned & efficient food and drink intake, with the key aim being to finish your route feeling like you could ride a bit further at the end. From there you will be well set to tackle the challenge of the mid-summer day, when the groups your with, the excitement, hopefully the sun(!), and the goal of aiming for sunset should take your legs the rest of the way to CHASE THE SUN…
